This past Saturday was the Season Opener the 2014 Season for Grace Barra Compnet and the Students and Coaches of GB Dana Point were there, in full force. It truly was a great day for Gracie Barra and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Irvine, as Dana Point had 26 kids and 6 adults, which made for 32 total students competing against other GB students from all over.
The Coaching Staff was running from mat to mat yelling their hearts out for each and every one of their students that were competing. To me, as a coach, it did not matter whether the student won or lost, but that they gave it their all and had fun while doing so, which is more important then any medal. With that being said, our kids and adults brought home several gold medals giving a nice feeling as well.
Overall spending the day coaching and watching the students go out there and put it all on the line made for a very rewarding day for everyone. For some it was their first time ever competing, whether they won or lost they gained the experience of competing; while for others, it was doing what they have done several times. They all were able to compete in the sport we love. At the end of the day, I truly felt like the team came together as a family, yelling and screaming for each other in support. To me that is a successful day which cannot be measured by any medal.
