1. Self Esteem Means Empowerment

Jiu-Jitsu has a direct impact on the students sense of worth. First and foremost, they gain a better understanding of their bodies and learn it can do much more than they thought.

Since our school nurtures the team spirit, students immediately feel part of a big family where coaches and senior students are always willing to help.

2. Fitness Means Freedom

Jiu-Jitsu is one of the most physically challenging martial arts. The fitness aspect of our training develops all areas of one’s body: strength, flexibility, stamina, coordination and balance. That is accomplished because  GB Dana Point Martial Arts Kids classes incorporate physical drills designed for specific age groups that vary every week.

As our children progress to hire ranks, they experience great improvement on their athleticism and overall fitness level. Discussions and messages about proper eating also play a role on creating good eating habits.

3. Discipline Means Self Control

It is no news to anyone that martial arts instill discipline on students, now what does it mean for children and how does it happen?

It all starts by giving each student something to strive for. The belt system summed up with a culture that rewards good behavior and advanced skill level, do a phenomenal job in giving the kids the simple goals.

Secondly, professors and coaches become their mentors to help each student achieve their goals being a new belt, a good take down, or a specific self defense technique. They make the students undertand that it is worth it to sacrifice time wasted wacthing TV or playing video game to be in class and make progress towards the goal they have committed to.

Thirdly, the peer pressure creates a very positive tention in which all students tend to gravitate towards the behavior of the best student.

This 3 steps process happens daily with each one of our children and simply means they are using discipline to control their habits and behaviors for the achievement of a higher purpose.

4. Self-Defense Means Self Confidence

Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art developed from one of the most effective self defense systems ever created for hand to hand combat. The original motivation of our founding fathers was to provide a method of self defense for the weaker to survive the stronger. While the techniques do a great preparing children to deal with and overcome the most common bullying aggression, it also does more than that for the students.

The biggest gain of learning self defense of the boost in self confidence. Just by knowing he can protect him or herself, the individual becomes experiences an increased sense of inner power and self sufficiency that leads to the so called self confidence show on attitudes on and off the Dojo.

5. Fun Means Enjoyment

Jiu-Jitsu is fun. Not only for children but also for adults. The idea of no pain no gain so widespread in competitive sports and martial arts does not necessarily apply at Gracie Barra. Students do undertand there are sacrifice to be made to be able to achieve high skill levels and performance but that comes by learning to enjoy training instead of seing it as a price that needs to be paid.
